Phenol is a compound produced by a hydrogen atom on the ring that is replaced by hydroxyl. There are α - and β - isomorphol, also known as 1-phenol and 2-phenol. The molecular formulas are all C10H7OH, and the structure is as shown. It's all white crystals. α-isomers are needle-like crystallization with a melting point of 96 degrees C and a relative density of 1.099 (99/4 degrees C). It can be volatile with water vapor or sublimated. β-isomers are oblique crystals with melting points of 123 to 124 degrees C and a density of 1.28 g/cm3 (20 degrees C). Both are insoluble in water and in organic solvents such as ethanol, benzene and chloroform. Dissolved in a solution of sodium hydroxide to produce the corresponding sodium persphenol salt. In the case of iron trichloride solution, coloration reaction occurred, α-isomers are purple, β-isomers are green. It can be sulfonated at different temperatures, such as the main α-sulfonate reaction with concentrated sulphuric acid at about 60 degrees C, and the main reaction at 160 degrees C is β-sulfonate, and then they are combined with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium alfalphenol salt, and finally acidized.
